Sight seeing in Granada & Sierra Nevada
Touristic sights in Granada & Sierra Nevada
Certainly, the prime activities in the Sierra Nevada are skiing and snowboarding. But apart from the excellent sports facilities, we recommend you to pay a visit to Granada, one of the most beautiful cities in Spain and all over Europe.
Its architecture, the history and its people are well-worth a visit. Below the mountains of Sierra Nevada you will find a lively metropole filled with Andalusian culture and beauty.

The Arabic castle Alhambra is enthroned on the highest point of the city of Granada. Created originally for military purposes by the Nasrite emirs starting in 1238, the Alhambra became an "alcazaba" (fortress), an "alcázar" (palace) and a small "medina" (city), all in one.
A walk through the "Generalife" gardens and artistically decorated court yards allows you to get a good impression of a long past dynasty, accompanied by amazing panoramic views of the snow covered mountains of the Sierra Nevada in the background.
It is necessary to pre-book your ticket for the Alhambra visit, long line-ups are not rare at any time of the year and only a limited number of visitors is allowed in at a time.
Albayzin (World Heritage Site)

The Albayzin is the historic district of Granada near to the city centre and attached to the Alhambra.
Its winding narrow streets are proof of its medieval moorish past. Be prepared for walking uphills, but being rewarded with fabulous views over to the Alhambra with the Sierra Nevada mountains in the background when you reach the Mirador (viewing point) de San Nicolas at the top after wandering past small churches and pretty squares with bars and cafes where it seems you have gone back in time.
