Mountains in the Sierra Nevada Spain - Veleta and Mulhacen

The natural park of the Sierra Nevada in Spain is expending over the provinces of Granada and Almeria, counting 171.829 hectars of surface.

Within this natural park there are 20 mountains of more than 3000m height. The Mulhacen with his 3.481m is highest amongst those and at the same time the highest all over Spain.

On a clear day you could see those peaks from the coast of Africa, and vice versa, you might as well see the Atlas mountains in Morroco while you are skiing or hiking in the mountains of Sierra Nevada.

The Alcazaba is another one of the highest peaks (3.366m) in the Sierra Nevada and very popular with climbers and hikers. Several mountain specialized companies offer guided tours through the natural park and up to the peaks of those beautiful mountains.

In the west of the nature park is "Sol y nieve" mountains, Europe's southernmost ski resort, where the ski season generally runs from November to April.

Apart from skiers and snowboarders at the resort, the park and mountains are popular with hikers, climbers and birdwatchers.
